1843      William Gower married Ann Augustus in Maidstone – his second marriage
1851       Census: William is working on Barcombe tunnel (near Spithurst)
1855      Edward (Ted) Gower was born to the above (who are now resident at Spithurst, Barcombe)
1871       Census: Edward Gower, aged 16, living as a servant in the Forge, Danehill with William (a Smithy) & Elizabeth Painter and family. Edward was a horseshoe fitter
1879      *William Gower died in Scaynes Hill
1880      Edward Gower married Sarah West at St John’s Burgess Hill (he is listed as a Blacksmith living in Burgess Hill). Sarah was in service and cooked in a Rectory at Burgess Hill.
1881       Census: Edward & Sarah Gower lived at 4 Wortley Cottage, Keymer. He is a Journeyman Blacksmith
1887      Edward & Sarah lived in a gardeners cottage at the foot of Scaynes Hill opposite the stone quarry. Their second child, Albert died in a fall in the quarry. As a result twins that Sarah was carrying also died and are buried with Albert
1889      Charles (Charlie) Gower born to Edward & Sarah

1917       *Edward Gower died
1917       Charles married Adelaide Green and they lived at various addresses in Scaynes Hill:
• 5 Beaconsfield Cottages
• No 1 Henfield Cottage
• Bedales Cottage
• Inces Cottage
• St Augustine’s Close
Charles served in the Royal Sussex Regiment and was wounded in the 1st World War although he was by trade a gardener.
